Every once in a while I like to go back to older blog posts to see what was on my mind. This is from August of 2008, and I’m glad I found it:
Marci Alboher, of the New York Times, has an interesting read/interview titled, “Why Leisure Matters in a Busy World”
How do you define Leisure?
Leisure has many different definitions – some involving time, some relating to an activity being done, some relating to state of mind.
My favorite quote from the interview:
“Wouldn’t it be great if we didn’t define ourselves by our work? It should be just as valid to define ourselves by our leisure.”
This mentality fits with the Snoloha concept and the escapism element of the brand.
We all know the usual question, “so what do you do?” Followed by the usual “well I work at so and so and I’m responsible for this and that” answer.
Wouldn’t it be great to answer that question with a completely different angle. Instead of work related, why not answer it with what we ENJOY doing?! Is that wrong? Is that bad? I don’t get it.
“So what do you do?” I sail as often as I can. I spend time with my wife, my baby girl and my dogs. I’m an entrepreneur growing a business. I look forward to college football Saturdays and our next trip to the Caribbean.
