It’s late March here in northern Michigan and Mother Nature just dumped a foot of snow on us. Yes, some people are complaining…but it’s March…in Michigan.
Personally, I think it’s great. It’s sunny, the sky is blue and the trees, woods and ski hills are blanketed in white stuff. This would be the “Sno” part of Snoloha.
This also allows for more winter Living on Snoloha Time by snowboarding and hiking / snowshoeing with Bailey the Dog.
And yes, being LOST allows me to turn my brain off for a while and escape. I love it. No tweeting, checking in, status updates, texting, emailing, phone calls, beepers, faxes, friend requests or telegraphs.
Yes, I bring the stupid cracked screen iPhone along…because I’m a dad now and have responsibilities, but also for the iPod and an occasional photo.
Today, I grabbed Bailey the Dog and we escaped to a local hiking area. We ran across another dog walking its owner and a cross country skier, otherwise it was just us. Perfect. Bailey was going out of her mind, jumping through the snow and tracking whatever scent her nose picked up. My brain was pretty much turned off..except for a song that kept replaying in my head. And I understand why…it’s a great escapism song.
“Knee Deep” by the Zac Brown Band featuring Jimmy Buffett
Gonna put the the world away for a minute
Pretend I don’t live in it
Sunshine gonna wash my blues awayHad sweet love but I lost it
She got too close so I fought her
Now I’m lost in the world trying to find me a better wayWishing I was knee deep in the water somewhere
Got the blue sky breeze and it don’t seem fair
Only worry in the world is the tide gonna reach my chair
Sunrise there’s a fire in the sky
Never been so happy
Never felt so high
And I think I might have found me my own kind of paradiseWrote a note said be back in a minute
Bought a boat and I sailed off in it
Don’t think anybody gonna miss me anywayMind on a permanent vacation
The ocean is my only medication
Wishing my condition ain’t ever gonna go awayCause now I’m knee deep in the water somewhere
Got the blue sky breeze blowing wind through my hair
Only worry in the world is the tide gonna reach my chair
Sunrise there’s a fire in the sky
Never been so happy
Never felt so high
And I think I might have found me my own kind of paradise
I love that verse…you could replace ‘ocean’ with whatever you want and it still works:
Mind on a permanent vacation
The ocean is my only medication
Wishing my condition ain’t ever gonna go away
Here’s Bailey the Dog…look closely through the trees and you can see the blue waters of West Grand Traverse Bay in the background.
